Some people look at beer drinkers as people who are shortening their live span but it has now been proven scientifically that drinking beer could have more health benefits than hazards.

Metro UK assembles a list of (scientifically sound) reasons to go to a beer parlour and order at least one bottle of the alcoholic drink.

1. Beer makes you live longer: Moderate beer drinkers were 19% less likely to die during a given time period than people who never touch a drop according to Virginia Tech researchers.

2. Drinking Beer makes you thin:  King’s College London Professor Tim Spector in his new book  The Diet Myth claims drinking Belgian beer is actually good for your gut bacteria which will in turn aid efficient digestion and help weight loss.

3. Beer helps to fight cancer: A strange reason it seems but not many people know that an ingredient called xanthohumol – a flavonoid found in hops – is an antioxidant which inhibits cancer-causing enzymes.

4. Beer makes the brain sharper: A particular study in the  New England Journal of Medicine found that women who had one alcoholic drink a day were less likely would retain their mental abilities as they grow older.

5. Beer doesn’t actually give you a beer belly: A myth has now been busted. It is generally believed that beer drinkers develop pot bellies but a study at UCL claim drinking beer and pot belly cannot be scientifically liked.

Researchers claim: ‘There is a common notion that beer drinkers are, on average, more ‘obese’ than either non-drinkers or drinkers of wine or spirits.

‘The association between beer and obesity, if it exists, is probably weak.

6. Beer stops you getting kidney stones: Kidney stones kill faster than imagined and a study published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology  advises people to drink beer as a People who drink a moderate amount of beer are 41% less likely to get kidney stones.

7. Beer has less calories than skimmed milk or orange juice: People who attend owambe’s note that and not frequent beer drinkers would say they want orange juice but they kill themselves faster than beer drinkers. Guinness recently released statistics showing that its heavy, dark brew is lower in calories than either OJ or skimmed milk.

 

8. Hoppy beers can protect against Alzheimer’s: Xanthohumol, a compound in the hops used to flavour beer, has been found to be able to protect  degenerative disorders of the brain such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

9. Beer Is full of Vitamins: Dr Stephan Domenig, medical director of the Mayr Health Centre in Austria recently said: ‘If you analysed beer you would  be amazed at how many super-nutrients there are in it.” Another reason why one might want to dump oranje juice.
10. Beer makes you bones stronger: Beer has been found to make the bones stronger, little wonder why people call beer drinkers; strong men.
A study in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture  found out that a glass or two a day could help make your bones stronger – it’s rich in dietary silicon, key to building bone mineral density.
