Lagosians are always on the run and with a lot of people using the road at the same time; traffic is almost a daily occurrence. Although other means of transportation are being encouraged, the road has already taken a position as the most used means of transportation in the city. Being stuck in traffic is uninteresting but there is no time to waste. Lagosians still try to utilize the time being stuck in total or slow moving traffic to other things. Eating is one of the ways to pass the time and here are five meals that have become popular with commuters.

(Un) arguably the number one choice of Lagosians in traffic, Gala and La casera have earned a place in people’s heart when they are in traffic. They’ve actually become synonymous with all brands of sausage rolls and soft drinks respectively. With two hundred naira, you can get a satisfying combination of this meal when you’re in traffic.

Plantain Chips.

Delicious and crunchy! Plantain chips are becoming quite popular with the traffic market. With a drink or cold water, you are ready to go. A sachet is sold for N100 or N50 for a small size. Some are peppered to give you that combined taste of ‘peppered sweetness’. The competitive market has led to some being branded for identification but a lot of Lagosians don’t care as long as they chips are real plantain!

Pop Corn

A very common meal in the cinema, it has found its way into Lagos traffic where it is quickly exchanging hands through the window of a bus. The fluffy food is usually sold for N50 and is wonderful with a bottle of water. Lagosians like it for its crunchy delight and doesn’t leave any tell-tale smell after consuming.

Chin Chin

Diced/elongated and crunchy, chin-chin is a delicious meal that is sold already sealed in nylons and sometimes branded. Sold for N50 or N100, depending on the size, it comes handy when stuck in traffic. For Lagosians, its best accompanied with a cold drink.

Meat pie/Fish Pie/Fish Roll

They’re all put into the same category because they are usually sold in the same plastic containers in Lagos traffic. The supposed fish pie might contain little or no fish but it still doesn’t stop Lagosians from grabbing a mouth filling bite in traffic. With a drink, you’ll soon forget it doesn’t have all the condiments you’re expecting.
